    On this day, the faithful commemorate:

    1. The Last Supper.

    2. Jesus’ washing of the apostles’ feet.

    3. Christ’s last hours prior to his arrest in Gethsemane.

     

    Highlights of the feast

    Jerusalem, Morning - Washing of the Feet ceremonies: The Greek Patriarch in the courtyard of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (O)

    The Head of the Franciscan Order in the Room of the Last Supper and later at the Saint Savior church (C)

    The Latin Patriarch, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (C)

    Anglicans, Armenians, Copts, Syrians and Ethiopians: in their respective churches

    Afternoon - A procession to the Last Supper Room for a brief prayer in Multiple Languages (C)

    Evening and night time - Reading of the 12 Gospels at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (O)

    Procession from the Church of Mary Magdalene to the Church of Alexander Nievsky to be followed by the Gospel Readings (O)

    Services and Processions to Gethsemane  beginning in St. George’s Cathedral, Redeemer’s Church and Christ Church (A, Lu, P)

    Holy Hour: A reading in several languages in the Basilica of Agony in Gethsemane. A candlelight procession from Gethsemane to Mount Zion (C)

    The Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu remains open to worshippers almost throughout the night.

  • 7th Annual John Paul II Pilgrimage Peace Marathon (For all)

    Bethlehem - Jerusalem: Participating in the Marathon are Israelis, Palestinians and Italians.

    The public is invited to register and participate.

    The marathon is run from the Nativity Church in Bethlehem to the Huldah Steps in the Old City of Jerusalem.
