Indian Ecumenical Christian Delegation Visits Israel to Promote Pilgrimage

The Israel Ministry of Tourism recently invited an ecumenical delegation of Indian church leaders to celebrate Lent in Israel. The delegation was headed by Mumbai Archbishop Cardinal Oswald Gracias. The objective of the visit was to foster good relations between India's Christian community and the State of Israel and to promote tourism between the two countries.

700 Pilgrims from Venice in Israel: Interview with Bishop Beniamino Pizziol

While the Holy Land enjoys a constant flow of pilgrims visiting its holy sites throughout the year, it is not every day that it welcomes a single group of 700 visitors.  The Catholic pilgrims from Venice – who filled three planes and 14 buses – were accompanied by Cardinal Angelo Scola, former Patriarch of Venice and now Archbishop of Milan, and Bishop Beniamino Pizziol, currently Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Venice.

Chilean Miners Experience the Holy Land

The Chilean Miners and their spouses recently made an eight-day pilgrimage of thanks to the Holy Land as guests of the Israel Ministry of Tourism. They embarked upon a spiritual and highly emotional journey, visiting various Christian holy sites.

Chilean Miners Visit Jerusalem's Holy Sites

There were emotional scenes this morning (Thursday), as 25 of the Chilean Miners and their spouses visiting Israel toured Jerusalem's Old City; including the Holy Sites along the Via Dolorosa, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Western Wall.

The miners are on an eight day tour of the Holy Land as guests of the Israel Ministry of Tourism.

The Holy Land John Paul II Games 2010 - Pilgrims of Peace

On April 25 and 26, 2010, hundreds participated in the John Paul II Games to continue his legacy and promote pilgrimage and sports as a bridge to peace. Italians, Israelis and Palestinians participated in the seventh annual Peace Marathon from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, followed by a non-competitive volleyball match.


Following an invitation from Minister of Tourism Stas Misezhnikov, 31 of the 33 miners rescued after 68 days underground in Chile, will be coming to Israel with their spouses, the Regional Governor of Atacama and Chilean journalists to take part in a Pilgrimage of Thanks in the Holy Land (23 February – 2 March 2011).
